How to Play FreeCell

Description

Almost every deal is solvable — if you plan well enough. Four free cells hold cards temporarily, and the game is in not trapping yourself inside your own planning.

Objective

Move every card onto four foundation piles, sorted by suit from Ace to King.

Setup

One deck, dealt entirely face up into eight columns — no hidden cards anywhere.

Four empty free cells sit above the columns for temporary storage.

Rules

Build tableau columns downward, alternating red and black.

Move the top card of any column onto a valid tableau spot, into an empty free cell, or up to its foundation pile if it's the next card needed.

A free cell holds exactly one card at a time, and can be moved back out to the tableau or up to a foundation whenever useful.

The more empty free cells (and empty columns) you have, the longer a matched sequence you can shift around at once.

Winning

Since every card is visible from the start, the whole game is a solvable puzzle rather than a game of chance.

You win once all four foundations are complete.

One of the most winnable solitaire games out there — the vast majority of deals can be solved with the right plan.
