How to Play Go-Stop

Description

Flower cards, matched by month, and a choice every time you score: bank it, or push on and risk the lot.

Also known as: Godori

Objective

Match flower cards by month to build scoring sets, then decide whether to stop and bank your points or go for more.

Setup

A 48-card hwatu deck — twelve months, four cards each. Deal ten cards to each of two or three players and eight face up to the table.

Cards are grouped into brights, animals, ribbons and junk, each scoring differently.

Rules

On your turn, play a card matching the month of one on the table and capture both. Then flip the top card of the stock and capture again if it matches.

If nothing matches, your card joins the table.

Captured cards are sorted into their scoring categories in front of you.

Winning

Once you reach the minimum score — usually three points — you must call either go or stop. Stop ends the round and banks your score.

Go continues play with your score locked in as a floor and a multiplier rising, but if an opponent reaches the threshold first, they take the round and you pay the penalty.
