How to Play Lansquenet
Description
A 17th century German gambling game — simple, fast, and entirely luck-based. Cards are dealt until a match appears, and the banker either wins or pays out. History at the table.
Objective
As the banker, be the first side matched by a fresh card. As a player, bet on whether your card or the banker's gets matched first.
Setup
Three or more players, using a shuffled deck. One player is the banker and stakes a sum to open the round.
The banker turns two cards face up — one for themselves, one for the players (the "punters") to bet on together.
Rules
Players place their bets against the banker's stake.
The banker then turns cards one at a time from the rest of the deck.
The moment a turned card matches the rank of either the banker's card or the players' card, that side is "hit."
Winning
If the players' card is matched first, the banker pays out to everyone who bet.
If the banker's card is matched first, the banker collects all the bets.
The banker can choose to keep banking after a win, or pass the role to the next player.
