How to Play Put
Description
One of England's oldest card games — a two-trick bluffing game where you can challenge your opponent to raise the stakes at any moment. Deceptively simple.
Objective
Win two of three tricks — or dare your opponent into folding before it gets there.
Setup
Two players, using a full deck. Cards rank unusually: 3 is highest, then 2, then Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, down to 4 as lowest. Suits don't matter.
Deal three cards to each player.
Rules
No trumps, no need to follow suit — lead or play any card you like.
Higher card wins the trick; the winner of a trick leads the next. Equal cards tie the trick, and it's set aside belonging to neither player.
At any point, either player can call "Put" — a bet that raises the stakes. Your opponent must either accept and keep playing for double, or fold and concede the hand.
Winning
Win two of the three tricks (or one trick with the other two tied) and you score a point.
If a Put was accepted, the winner of the hand scores double.
First player to 5 points wins the match.
