How to Play Sueño
Description
Build shared card piles toward exactly 21 — but so is everyone else. Claim a pile when it hits the magic number, cancel out duplicates, and empty your hand before anyone else does.
Objective
Claim tricks by landing a pile total at exactly 21 — a shared pool, but only one player claims each trick.
Setup
Deal five cards to each player. Three starter cards go face up in the centre to begin the piles. The rest form a face-down draw pile.
Rules
On your turn you must play one card onto an existing pile — the new total must stay at 21 or under.
If you have no legal play, you may open a new pile instead.
If the top card of any pile exactly matches a card you're holding by rank, you can play the matching card and remove both — duplicate cancellation. Rank is what matters, not value, so Queens don't cancel Jacks even though both are worth ten.
Aces can be worth 1 or 11, and you can update their value at any point. Draw back up to five cards at the end of each turn while the draw pile lasts.
Winning
Hit exactly 21 on a pile and it's yours: one point, and a replacement starter card appears.
The round ends when every player has emptied their hand and the draw pile is gone. Tied points are broken by total cards captured.
