How to Play Tarneeb
Description
Bid the tricks your partnership will take, name the trump, and then live with the number you said out loud.
Objective
Bid the number of tricks your partnership will take, name the trump, and deliver.
Setup
A standard 52-card deck, four players in two fixed partnerships. Deal thirteen cards to each player.
Rules
Bidding starts at seven and rises. Each bid promises that many of the thirteen tricks for your side.
The winning bidder names the trump suit — the tarneeb — and leads the first trick.
Follow suit if you can; if not, you may trump or discard. Highest trump takes the trick, otherwise the highest card of the suit led.
Winning
Make your bid and your side scores the tricks taken; fall short and you lose the value of the bid instead.
The defending side scores for the tricks they take regardless. Play to an agreed target, commonly 31 points.
