How to Play Tarneeb Syrian

Description

Tarneeb as the Syrian table plays it — the bidding opens lower and a broken contract costs you every point you promised.

Objective

Bid for your partnership, name trump, and take the tricks you promised.

Setup

A standard 52-card deck, four players in two fixed partnerships. Thirteen cards each.

Rules

The Syrian form differs mainly in the bidding floor and in how a failed contract is punished — bids start lower, and going down costs the full value of the bid.

The winning bidder names the trump suit and leads the first trick.

Follow suit if you can; otherwise trump or discard. Highest trump takes the trick, or the highest card of the suit led.

Winning

Making the bid scores it for the partnership; failing subtracts it.

Defenders score for tricks taken. Play to an agreed target.
