How to Play The Pretender
Description
One of you doesn't know the category — and has to fake it. Everyone gives an answer, the group debates, and then you all vote. Can the pretender bluff their way through?
Objective
Insiders: correctly identify every pretender. Pretenders: bluff well enough to outscore an insider or force a tie.
Setup
Most players privately receive a category through the app. One player — two at a full table of six — receives nothing and has to bluff. Kings, Queens and Jacks are insiders who know the category; Jokers are pretenders who don't.
The dealer picks a category from a list of fifty; insiders see it on their screens, pretenders see only "pretend you know the category."
Rules
Going around the table, each player gives exactly one spoken answer out loud — no typing, no screens.
The table then opens up for discussion: question, probe, accuse.
When ready, everyone votes simultaneously through the app. Votes land at the same moment — no last-second swaying.
Winning
Insiders win if every pretender is correctly identified.
Pretenders win if any insider collects more votes than a pretender, or if the vote ties.
One round per player, dealer rotates, highest score at the end wins.
