How to Play Trix Complex

Description

Five contracts, four of them about avoidance, played through in an order you choose yourself.

Objective

Work through a full cycle of five contracts, avoiding penalties in four of them and chasing tricks in the fifth.

Setup

A standard 52-card deck, four players playing individually. Thirteen cards each.

Each player chooses the order of their own five contracts across the round.

Rules

The four negative contracts are avoidance: no tricks at all, no hearts, no queens, and not the King of Hearts.

The fifth is Trix itself — a positive contract where players lay cards to build sequences from the Jacks outward, racing to shed their hand.

In the negative contracts, follow suit if you can and there is no trump; the highest card of the suit led takes the trick.

Winning

Each negative contract carries its own penalty per card taken; Trix rewards finishing order.

When every player has declared all five contracts, the highest cumulative score wins.
